Aside from the Great Lakes, I have also guided in Alaska and Colorado. The Salmon and Steelhead runs of the Great Lakes offer some of the best fishing around, however knowlege and experience on these streams is essential.
In Northern Indiana we are fortunate to have some of the best Skamania runs in all of the U.S.. Skamania, are a strain of Steelhead which enter our rivers and streams as early as June. This additional summer run gives us the opportunity to catch Steelhead Trout almost all year long.
In the Fall, King and Coho Salmon can also be caught in the Indiana tributaries. Brown Trout can be caught Fall through Spring.
Summer steelhead: June- August
Fall Salmon and Steelhead: September-November
Winter Steelhead: December-February
Spring Steelhead: March-April
Fly Fishing can be very effective but there are times when I recommend light spin or center pin setups.
High Quality rods, reels and tackle will be provided or you're welcome to bring you own if you prefer. If you have, bring is waders, polorized glasses and a hat. Waders aren't always necessary, most fishing is from the bank. I have a few for clients but they may or may not be in your size. During the summer, jeans and wading shoes work fine. You will also need a fishing license and a trout and salmon stamp.
As a guide, my goal is to get you hooked into fish and provide an experience in which you would return and recommend to a friend.
Half-days are at least 4 hours of fishing, full-days are at least 8. For full day trips, you can bring lunch or there are also places to eat near by, I provide water, snacks and a cooler.
If your not comfortable or unable to walk distances of a few miles, please let me know ahead of time. Sometimes we make use of two cars by parking at different locations on the river and walking the distance between, allowing us to cover more water without having to backtrack.
