Aside from the Great Lakes, I have also guided in Alaska and Colorado. The salmon and steelhead runs of the great lakes offer some of the best fishing I've found, however knowlege and experience on these streams is essential.
In Northern Indiana we are fortunate to have some of the best summer Skamania runs in all of the great lake's fisheries. Skamania, are a strain of steelhead which enter our rivers and streams as early as June. This additional summer run gives us the opportunity to catch steelhead almost all year long.
In the fall, I also offer trips in Pennsylvania for Steelhead and Southern Michigan for King Salmon. Anglers have a shot at Browns in all tributaries from late fall through early winter.
Summer steelhead: June- August
Fall Salmon and Steelhead: September-November
Winter Steelhead: December-February
Spring Steelhead: March-April
Fly Fishing can be very effective but there are times when I would recommend light spin and center pin setups.
Rods, reels and tackle will be provided or you're welcome to bring you own if you prefer. My set ups are 10-8(10lb main line to 8lb leader)
All you need to bring is waders and fishing license.
(In the summer, jeans and wading shoes work fine)
I also recommend polorized glasses and a hat.
As a guide, my goal is to get you hooked into fish and provide an experience in which you would return and recommend to a friend.
Half-days are at least 4 hours of fishing, full-days are at least 8. For full day trips I recommend bringing a lunch, I provide water, snacks and a cooler.
If your not comfortable or unable to walk distances of a few miles, please let me know ahead of time. Sometimes we make use of two cars by parking at different locations on the river and walking the distance between, allowing us to cover more water without having to backtrack.
